drawing/hands

As usual I have bitten off more than I can chew this week and found myself without any time to draw.  I compiled some of my favorite hand photos and some sketching I did about 10 years ago.

My hands that are looking so old these days, the texture has changed, the lines are deeper.  But this doesn't make me too sad, for it's with these hands that I have touched life, held my babies, embraced my true love, comforted, made countless floral bouquets for countless years, I have stitched, clapped, planted, and prayed with these hands, climbed, carried, hit high fives, and shaped with clay, and I have drawn a lot with these hands.
I do so appreciate this drawing challenge, even if time gets away from me and I miss out on drawing, it's on my mind and I stay inspired.
Visit Nadine today... if you can handle it.

now, rachel... that is what i call a hand! that is the sort of hand i can't do. i am in awe, and i realize i can't do that kind of precise drawing... because i'm impatient. i do experience that looking at hands and then drawing them makes the picture complete.

you do of course realize that your photo #3 has postcard potential?

as for keats... and ink on hands... and how about the actor's voice. did you fall for it? i did. i still do.

Dear Rachel,
wonderful 'nude life drawing' of a hand. They dance!

and: I love the movie 'Bright Star' of Jane Campion... 'Keats' writing inky hand is really connected to his fabulous words.
And those butterflies.. and breezing curtain like a breath.

Wonderful, colourful pics here, again. Rachel with raspberry-hand, double sweet.

Beautiful study! Hands were always my favorite to draw. Especially since someone told me long ago that hands are the most difficult part of the body to draw and I have a hard time resisting a challenge :D

Of course, I know now, that it's not the actual hands that are hard to draw, but to capture the story of the hands, all that they have held and known. To illustrate hands is to illuminate a life. It is perhaps this history that makes people uneasy about drawing hands?

Your photos have done a lovely job of expressing such depth. Thanks for sharing with us :)
