As usual I have bitten off more than I can chew this week and found myself without any time to draw. I compiled some of my favorite hand photos and some sketching I did about 10 years ago.
My hands that are looking so old these days, the texture has changed, the lines are deeper. But this doesn't make me too sad, for it's with these hands that I have touched life, held my babies, embraced my true love, comforted, made countless floral bouquets for countless years, I have stitched, clapped, planted, and prayed with these hands, climbed, carried, hit high fives, and shaped with clay, and I have drawn a lot with these hands.
I do so appreciate this drawing challenge, even if time gets away from me and I miss out on drawing, it's on my mind and I stay inspired.

now, rachel... that is what i call a hand! that is the sort of hand i can't do. i am in awe, and i realize i can't do that kind of precise drawing... because i'm impatient. i do experience that looking at hands and then drawing them makes the picture complete.

Beautiful study! Hands were always my favorite to draw. Especially since someone told me long ago that hands are the most difficult part of the body to draw and I have a hard time resisting a challenge :D
Of course, I know now, that it's not the actual hands that are hard to draw, but to capture the story of the hands, all that they have held and known. To illustrate hands is to illuminate a life. It is perhaps this history that makes people uneasy about drawing hands?
