Drawing Challenge / Coca Cola

A pharmacist from Atlanta, Georgia conjured up the recipe for Coca Cola in 1886, and the rest is history.  From what I understand, you don't even mention the word Pepsi here.  I can't vouch for this story but someone told me that a delivery driver for Coca Cola was fired after someone tattled that he had a Pepsi during his lunch break.  I find that hard to believe because I have yet to see a Pepsi product available for purchase anywhere in Atlanta.

We see Coca Cola murals, billboards, and products around the city more than any other.  As the kids are avid bottle cap collectors, we are finding these bottle caps everywhere!

If you have a few minutes listen to this episode of This American Life.  Ira Glass claims to have found the original recipe!

Please visit Ariane,  Nadine, Veronica, Susan, Tania, Patrice, Eric, Joke, and Sally to see what they came up with.  I am curious to know what kind of relationship y'all have with Coca Cola.  Frankly, I can't drink it.  It makes me a bit nauseous.

These buttons look a little like pop art. All the coke images (especially the older ones) have become such icons.
And drinking a pepsy there sounds like plaing with fire.

I love these bottle caps.... & agree with Cerulean that they are very pop art. Thank you for hosting this fun challenge.

i may actually sit down and listen in to that program, if i can get my 'hind behind my studio table anytime soon, it'll be fun.
and i like a coke, from time to time. chases my nausea {which may also be its original purpose, not? but here's funny: i can't tell the difference between a pepsi and a coke, but that's just me!!...
lovely to hear from you from atlanta!n♥

Love these Rachel! I'm not a pop drinker at all but, probably because I have a CMNS degree, love and admire the branding. Coke, absolute vodka, nike...all brilliant. Thank you so much for a fun, and (for me) challenging challenge. :) 11971

How fun, Veronica sent me. I actually thought I read somewhere that original Coca cola was made with small amounts of cocaine? I don't know but that could account for the driver being fired. I personally drink very little soda and if I do, it's over ice and no calories.

I have to think about a creative post for this challenge subject. A drawing challenge is a great idea inspiration. Cheers !

Wonderful and unique theme Rachel- so sorry I missed it but it has been fun seeing what everyone has made of this beverage- good and bad...which is always the fun part :)
Love your "pop" caps - best Kristen

Hi, Rachel - this was a fun challenge for me, a real walk into the past. Your line of caps makes me think of Warhol's soup cans!
Happy week - Sus

Pepsi? What's Pepsi?? ;-D
One of my first thoughts on this theme was Warhol and pop art. You put it perfectly into pictures! I love the simplicity of your drawing, it's so reduced and still says all. Is there anyone in the world that doesn't know Coca Cola? Not many people, I guess... And yes, of course: bottle caps!! I remember a time when tiny collectible pictures of pop stars were on the inside of coke caps! Always fun to discover which singer was there!
Sorry for being late this time, but I finally made it. Yeah!
