redwoods

On our final day in Oregon we drove to California and walked through the redwoods. James and his lovely girlfriend Sarah arrived the night before. It was a beautiful end to our week long trip. Seeing my dad again was wonderful and it made him so happy to see us all, especially the grandkids. It was hard to leave my dad and hard to leave one of the most gorgeous places on our planet. But I have no fear, because we will be back! (One of these days for good!)

departure

This morning we head to the airport. Landing in Medford , Oregon, then driving to Brookings. It will be a long day of travel. Jut got word that my younger brother James will be driving over from Portland to join us! I am so happy right now.
I will do my best to post some pictures during our trip.

This is a photo taken when I was maybe 20 years old. Thats my dad, big brother Dave, little brother James, dog Buster. Standing in the Oregon rain.

for seaweed pete

I'm making this felted sweater quilt for my dad. We fly to the Oregon coast on Thursday to see him. I haven't seen my dad in nearly 10 years. A happy reunion it will be.

Do you think he'll like it?

rainy day

Yesterday brought us rain, oh how wonderful the rain!
And a handmade dog sweater.
And a rescued wooden chair from the side of the road.
I have been passing by this chair the past couple of days, left out at someone's trash bin. After day 3 still no one had picked it up. I couldn't just leave it there in the rain , could I?!
I'm such a trash picker.
(and proud of it!)

unplugged

This week is a busy one for me. I am making a doll every night until next week when I ship them to Suzi and she will display them with her adorable tees at the Ojai Day Festival. Sadly I am busy that day and won't be able to sit under the tent with her and soak in the autumn air in the town I love. But she has offered to be my pimp if you will and try and sell these cloth dolls I have been making. Greta hopes none of them sell. She wants them for herself. Oh, Greta.

In other news, I am out a computer for a few days. It's on the way to the Apple store tomorrow to be dropped off. For now I am checking email with my phone and letting kids watch Mio Mao on the small screen.
Greta has also picked up the embroidery hoop once again. In the past she has spent maybe 10 minutes tops with the needle and thread, yesterday she spent a good part of the day on a project. She was really into it and that had me feeling proud. Here she is multitasking. Pushing Henry and stitching away while I cooked dinner.

This friday we go to Underwood Farm in Moorpark then spend the night with Grandma Lisa on the other side of the hill. I'm hoping there will be stew and chocolate chip cookies waiting for us. (Planting a seed there.)
I don't think I will be posting much the rest of the week. So hope it's a good one for ya!

fashion for fall

Hand-me-down cowboy boots from Jasper.

To go with this jumper so lovingly made by Grandma Lisa. A fun western pattern embroidered on a thin corduroy. Coming soon will be pants for Henry out of same fabric.

A beanie for Henry made by his mama, (that would be me.) I found a lovely yarn shop in South Pasadena. It didn't feel claustrophobic the way most yarn shops do. It had a very open and warm feeling to it, and the color and the yarn and the books, oh my! I found this green for Henry's hat and used some orange from my very small stash at home.
I made it for our trip to Oregon in three weeks. Yes, three weeks!
Henry doesn't like hats and will probably not wear it for more than the 12 seconds he did this morning...but it's ok. It's all about the love that goes into it, am I right?
Gearing up for the autumn season. Bring it on.
